Awareness of what connectivity really means is essential in order to achieve the essence of the main dimension of connectivity: Humans and people-to-people connectivity.

While the cooperation between Japan and the European Union has flourished after the signing of the strategic and economic partherships, the exchange of ideas, views and goods has also deepened among Japan and some of the EU's regional groupings.

Economic and geopolitical instability has grown over recent decades. Russia's invasion of Ukraine and China's threats toward Taiwan have highlighted the need for stronger partnerships. Europe and Japan have recognized each other as key partners with shared interests, values, and goals.

Services is the largest part of all OECD economies. More than 70 percent of GDP is generated from services, with about the same share of overall employment. A similar development can be seen in many developing countries. Connectivity is the key.

Promoting the transition away from fossil fuels is a key area where the EU and Japan can cooperate in Sri Lanka. The case highlights the great potential for cooperation between the two partners in aiding others with energy transition.

The past decade has seen a significant increase in the influence of “outsiders”. Despite its deteriorating credibility due to the invasion to Ukraine, Russia continues to exert considerable influence in the regon.

The EU and Japan are dedicated to the same goal of sustainable and inclusive growth. But the way they go about it is different. This situation provides the EU-Japan Partnership with enormous opportunities.

The world is changing at a rapid pace, and we must change with it. Success will depend on how broadminded the people involved are, as well as on the will of politicians to implement unconventional ideas.
